Grassi Lakes are very pretty, and an easy hike/walk but with limited views. It's possible to make a loop with Riders of Rohan (2.7 km from dam to trailhead) or the Highline Trail. We went up the Grassi Lakes "more difficult" trail and then back via Riders of Rohan. RoR is also a mountain bike trail, though we didn't see anyone. It was a descent through forest with no views, so not really very interesting, unless you really like a loop versus taking the same way back. Access to RoR is by continuing up past Grassi Lakes to Whiteman's Pond, and then left at the dam. Also, in order to get back to the trailhead, cross Rundle Forebay at the bridge shown below - otherwise, it's a walk along the forebay to the highway, and then a walk up the highway to the parking lot.
View on the way up. The "lake" is called Rundle Forebay. Lower right in the picture is the hydro plant.
Waterfall from the lakes.
